Museum of Scotland
In undertaking the Museum of Scotland project, the National Museums of Scotland decided to pioneer a completely new approach to the use of digital technologies within museums.
Members of our UK team at SBG Advisory were instrumental in facilitating change in public perceptions and expectations of how technology should be deployed in museums.
A number of pilot projects were undertaken that tested the public’s reaction to rich digital content for interpretation of complex artefacts – rather than just the provision of encyclopaedic collection catalogues. This scoping study led to a project brief being agreed for implementation that comprised a wide range of digital content and hardware installations located throughout the new museum building.
The design methodology and technology applications we implemented at the Museum of Scotland have stood the test of time and continue to demonstrate the value of producing classic programmes supported by latest digital technology to enhance the public’s engagement with key items in collections.
